Experience George Ranalli’s First Residential Project

Modern Architecture in Newport can be a rare find, especially when it comes to the popular Point District.  The Callender School Condominiums certainly sets itself apart, but still holds its place in history.  Not your typical condo, this home can be found on the cover of the European Architectural Digest, in several other editions of Architectural Digest, ProJo’s Home of The Week, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and dozens of other publications.  A magnificent example of modern architecture, in the heart of Colonial Newport.

Upon entering the unit, you’ll find your eyes can’t keep still. The gleaming hardwoods, nearly 30 foot high ceilings, right angles in every direction and massive windows with exceptional southern exposure consistently grab your attention. Make your way into the living room, and you’ll notice the focal point of George Renalli’s project, a giant, nearly 30 foot high “floating wall”, seemingly suspended in place.  Is it a dog? Dinosaur? It’s up to you and your guests to decide.

The interview with Mr. Renalli will show that every little detail, down to the color, was considered in his work.  The design is intended for the viewer to see the inner workings of the home.  His other works, now sprinkled across the globe, can be found on his website. Some of his most recognizable include the Saratoga Ave Community Center in NYC, Times Square Competition winning entry and several other notable residences in NYC.

“The Callender School, which was a formidable and incredibly powerful building in the Newport landscape. Both incredibly elegant and beautiful.” -George Ranalli

While incredibly unique, the home is practical too! Two bedrooms with space and storage galore! The private loft space is above the common stairwell doubling as a 2nd bedroom or an über-private office. Several additional rooms; library, reading room, and inglenook can be used as desired. A small deck right of the dining room is perfect for grilling.

The private roof top deck, towering nearly a story above your neighborhood, offers an astounding panoramic 360° view of Newport harbor. An excellent home for vacationers or a year round resident who needs the space but not the upkeep of an historic Newport home.

Consider this large residence in beautiful Newport RI. that sets itself apart in every which way. If Modern Architecture is your cup of tea, this is a great opportunity to own a piece of history.
