From Pirates to Paradise
And what about the history? One is hard pressed to find a harbor island in this great country with more history, transformation and functions in over the past three centuries than our own Goat Island. From Native Americans and Revolutionaries to Pirates and Naval Engineers, this 20-acre island has served its country and then some. Prior to the construction of Ft. Adams in the 1700’s. Newport Harbor was protected by the many Forts erected on the Goat Island. Nearly every torpedo used in World War I and II was manufactured here.
