When it comes to dining in Newport, RI you can’t go wrong at too many places. Everyone you ask will tell you to go somewhere different because there are so many great restaurants in town. From seafood to burgers to drinks by the waterfront Newport RI has it all and has at least one spot that does it very well. These are the places I like to take my friends to impress them when they come visit Newport.
Brick Alley Pub– Brick Alley is probably the top most recommended place in Newport. They serve pub style comfort food in a neat three-story restaurant covered in sports memorabilia, license plates, autographs and much more. On top of all of that I have always had great service when I go there. If you want to get a table during the summer make a reservation. There is no way to get in there last minute without at least a 45 minute wait.
White Horse Tavern– Located just north of Newport’s historic Washington Square, the White Horse Tavern is the oldest tavern in the Unites States. They specialize in upscale dining and offer more casual faire by the bar. I will admit, I would have never thought to go there before my dad acquired the restaurant, but the food is incredible. Steaks are exquisite, salads are elegant and the other dishes they serve are innovative using the freshest local ingredients out there. They are open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Be sure to make a reservation on the weekends or for large parties.
Flo’s Clam Shack– My family makes it a point to go to Flo’s at least once every summer. Located across from Easton’s Beach Flo’s has all of your favorite seafood classics and a great view of the water. Order and pick-up your food at the window downstairs, but grab a seat while you wait before they get snatched up. *Insider tip: the seats upstairs have the best view of the beach.
Newport Tokyo House– If you want sushi Tokyo House is the place to go. It’s about a 15 minute walk down Broadway, but it’s worth the trip. Their hand-rolled sushi is the best on in Newport and they have two full hibachi stations with very charismatic chefs!
Cold Fusion Gelato– This little shop on Lower Thames was my summer job for five years, so I know first hand that this is the best place to get a frozen treat in Newport. They have over 300 gelatos and sorbets they rotate daily, spanning from classics like peanut butter cup and strawberry to odd twists like avocado and olive oil. Everything there is all natural, handmade and insanely delicious *Insider tip: They also have great coffee drinks!
Newport Creamery– Craving a milkshake? Before you leave Newport you have to try Newport Creamery’s Awful Awful up on Bellevue Avenue. It’s a Rhode Island classic made with their signature ice cream and frozen milk. I suggest either coffee or Oreo flavor, but they make them in a number of flavors for all different taste buds.
