Newport, RI: Why Our Agents Live Where They Sell

When choosing a new place to call home, there’s no better guide than someone who already lives there. At Hogan Associates, many of our agents don’t just work in Newport, they live in its vibrant neighborhoods, raise families here, and take part in local traditions. We asked a few of them to share what they love most about their corner of Aquidneck Island and what makes their communities special.

The Point: Coastal Charm Meets Historic Beauty

With its tree-lined streets, 18th- and 19th-century homes, and walkable waterfront access, The Point is a favorite for locals who love history and charm. Holly McLear, who has lived there for 32 years, describes it as a place where you can hear foghorns, catch fireworks on foot, and walk to nearly everything. “The streetscapes are always changing with the seasons,” she says. “There’s a deep sense of place here.”

Jeff Brooks, who lives in the Kerry Hill area, appreciates the quiet surroundings and proximity to downtown. “It’s peaceful, the neighbors are great, and it’s so easy to get to shops, restaurants, or hop on the bridge to Providence,” he says. “I love walking the bike path to the dog park, then grabbing ice cream or a frozen banana from Leo’s.”

Off Broadway: Local Flavor and Community Spirit

Meredith LeBlanc has lived in several Newport neighborhoods since 1971, including Historic Hill, Fifth Ward, and currently in Off Broadway. What keeps her rooted here? “I love the historical aspect of this city and its draw to an international crowd. There are so many interesting people to meet.”

She especially enjoys walking to King Park with her pug, Scarlet, and spending time at Touro Park, home to the mysterious Old Stone Tower. “I feel that our community is very generous and is quick to support each other,” she says. “Also, there is a great art culture here!”

One of her favorite traditions is the holiday season. “I love Christmas and seeing all of the lights twinkling in town. My grandmother, Ruth Myers, started Christmas in Newport in 1972, which is a month-long program of events to celebrate the season in a non-commercial way.

Easton’s Pond: A Serene Escape

Shannon Walker’s neighborhood near Easton’s Pond is a hidden jewel. “People are always amazed at how serene it is,” she says. “The pond offers a changing continuum of wildlife, and the walkability is incredible.” With Broadway’s restaurants and cafes just steps away, she’s found the perfect mix of quiet and convenience.

A self-professed early bird, Shannon loves watching the sunrise over the pond and spends free afternoons in her garden or walking to grab coffee on Broadway. Her advice for anyone considering a move here? “Buy. Now.”

Bellevue: Nature, Architecture, and Community

Elizabeth Enochs and her family live just north of Ruggles Avenue. It’s a picturesque part of town with ocean views and architectural treasures. “I love everything about living here,” she says. “The beauty of the ocean, the trees, the architecture, the quality of life, plus proximity to both nature and city amenities.”

Favorite local traditions include the illuminated boat parade held the day after Thanksgiving and her family’s tradition of dining at the Clarke Cooke House to celebrate the start of summer.  Whether it’s walking the Cliff Walk in every season or paddling off Ocean Drive, Elizabeth finds endless ways to enjoy the natural beauty around her.

“Newport is big enough for privacy and anonymity if you want it, but small enough that people rally to help their neighbors,” she says. “It’s a small-town community with big-city attractions, and it’s easy to feel at home here quickly.”

Home Is Where the Heart—and Community—Is

From the historic homes of The Point to the peaceful paths of Easton’s Pond and the grand beauty of Bellevue, our agents don’t just sell real estate, they live and thrive in the neighborhoods they represent. Whether you’re looking for waterfront charm, walkable streets, or deep-rooted community ties, Newport has a neighborhood that fits your lifestyle.
