Bristol and Middletown: Why Our Agents Live Where They Sell

Bristol and Middletown: Why Our Agents Live Where They Sell

When it comes to choosing a place to live, the best insights often come from those who already call it home. At Hogan Associates, many of our agents don’t just sell homes in Rhode Island’s coastal communities—they know the shortcuts, the best spots for a quiet walk, and where to grab the perfect cup of coffee—because this is their home, too.

We asked two of our agents to share what they love most about living in Bristol and Middletown RI. From peaceful bike paths to family traditions, their reflections capture the spirit of life on Aquidneck Island.

Devon Hogan on Walkability and Coastal Charm in Downtown Bristol, RI

After years of living in downtown Newport, Devon made the move across the bay to Bristol. “I still wanted to be by the water and within walking distance to shops and restaurants,” she says. Downtown Bristol struck the perfect balance.

What she loves most? The walkability and the way residents care for their community. “Every public space is so well kept, and everyone has access to these prime locations with great amenities. There’s a certain sense of ease when you’re in Bristol that I really appreciate,” she says. Favorite spots include Colt State Park, the East Bay Bike Path, and the town’s beautifully maintained public beaches and green spaces.

Bristol is full of history too. As Devon notes, it’s home to the America’s Cup Hall of Fame and has deep ties to sailing and boatbuilding. But what really sets it apart is the spirit of community.

Her favorite event? “The Fourth of July celebration. Being America’s oldest continuous Fourth of July celebration, the energy is unmatched. The parade is spectacular, but it’s also about the way the whole town comes together.”

On a free afternoon, you might find Devon at a yoga class, grabbing brunch at Beehive Café, then biking or walking all the way to Colt State Park and the bird sanctuary. Later, she might unwind with wings and pizza from Brick Pizza Co. “It’s the perfect Bristol day,” she says.

Devon also treasures the little moments of connection that define life here. One spring afternoon, she and her boyfriend stumbled upon a man flying enormous kites shaped like dragons and butterflies in the park. “We laid in the grass beneath the kites, and soon others did the same. No one knew who he was, but for an hour we all just looked up together. It reflected the kindness and sense of community that Bristol inherently has.”

Matt on Beach Lifestyle in Easton’s Point

For Matt, home is the Easton’s Point neighborhood of Middletown, where he’s lived for over 22 years. The area is a tranquil coastal enclave of scenic ocean-view homes, quietly tucked between the beaches and Newport, where residents enjoy privacy, sea breezes, and easy access to local shops and dining.

What first drew him to the neighborhood? Its unbeatable location. “Easton’s Point is just minutes from some of Rhode Island’s most beautiful beaches” he says. “The best perk is that it is nearby downtown Newport. I loved the idea of being able to spend the morning by the water, then head into town for great restaurants and local events all within a short drive or bike ride. It offers that perfect balance of a relaxed coastal lifestyle with easy access to everything the city has to offer.”

What’s it like on a day to day basis living in Middletown? “You always notice the natural beauty of the area. I get to drive by the beach anytime I leave the house – it’s a simple joy. My morning runs along Sachuest Point or the Cliff Walk keep me connected to the coastal landscape.”

The community has its own hidden gems too — like Third Beach, a favorite spot known mostly to locals — and a laid-back rhythm that makes grabbing a coffee Custom House part of a perfect morning routine.

What really sets Middletown apart for Matt, though, is how life here moves with the seasons. In the summer, it’s all about spontaneous trips to the beach or hopping on a boat just minutes after finishing work. Each season brings its own traditions and local events — from harvest fairs and farmers markets to the boat show and folk festival — creating a sense of community and continuity throughout the year. It’s this blend of coastal charm, local character, and ever-changing seasonal energy that makes living — and selling real estate — here so rewarding.

His advice to folks considering a move to this area? “Host an evening picnic at Third Beach with the family for an unforgettable night.”
